Do you want to improve your knowledge of French, speak it like a real native? There’s nothing like knowing a few small, typically French expressions!
Here are 8 expressions, together wirh pictures and examples of how to use them in sentences, in order to help you remember them better:
- “These arent’ your onions” : it’s none of your business!
Example: “Do you want to know what I discussed with my friend Chantal? But these aren’t your onions! It’s intimate. ”
- “Getting a rake”: failing in your attempt to seduce someone.
Example: “I asked Ines to become my girlfriend, but I got a rake. She immediately refused, saying she was not interested.”
- “Throwing yourself into the wolf’s mouth”: exposing yourself to danger in a reckless manner
Example: “If a stranger on the street suggests you follow him to his house, don’t go there! It could be dangerous. We must never throw ourselves into the mouth of the wolf…”
- “Being in the moon”: being distracted, lost in thought.
Example: “When I talk to him, I wonder if he hears me, he always seems elsewhere in his thoughts. Besides, he always forgets everything: he’s really in the moon! “
- “To be picked up with a teaspoon”: in a deplorable physical state of extreme fatigue.
Example: “After finishing my marathon, I was to be picked up with a spoon. All I wanted to do was go to sleep.»
- “It’s not the sea to drink! “: it’s not that difficult!
Example: “You will get to work and review your math lesson for tomorrow. It’ll take you 20 minutes and you’ll be fine, it’s not the sea to drink! “
- “Drying classes”: do not go to class when there is a class.
Example: “Today 2 students in the class did not come to school because they did not want to: they dried classes. “
- “To be pistonned” : to get the support of an influential person to move up to a higher position
Example: “The former president’s son got a prestigious job at just 20 years old when he has no degree. He must have been pistonned by his Dad…. “

11 January 2020 at 10 h 16 minMerci pour ce gentil commentaire ! Je suis bien consciente que les cours écrits et les publications Facebook de notre groupe Coliglote Language learning développent principalement des compétences écrites. Pour l’oral, l’application Coliglote qui est en cours de développement pourra répondre particulièrement à ce besoin spécifique d’écouter et parler. Juste un tout petit peu de patience encore, le développement touche à sa fin et ce n’est plus qu’ne question de semaines avant que l’application ne soit disponible.

15 January 2020 at 11 h 02 minWhat a pleasure to read your complimentary comment! It’s really nice of you to write it to me, it encourages me a lot to continue. I try to make this blog as useful as possible for learners of any foreign language. I’m passionate about foreign languages myself and very creative on this subject. May I also draw your attention to the application I am creating? Perhaps you haven’t heard of it yet? It’s about learning with a real native speaker, in interaction, on teaching aids. If you want to learn or improve your language skills, come and discover its concept, I’m sure you’ll like it. You will find all the information on this link: https://www.coliglote.com/
